I believe in quality > quantity, the magic of storytelling, and doing all things really really well…

Hey, I’m Lisa!

I write thoughtful copy, engaging articles, and the occasional short fic. With a background in creative writing and design, I bring my sense of beauty, love of storytelling, and drive for excellence to each and every project I work on.

I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was twelve, so I started an “indefinite gap year” after high school to try my hand at my dream without racking up thousands in student debt by getting a degree. And I haven’t looked back yet.

In my quest to become a writer, I’ve written for blogs and magazines, proofread anthologies, edited novels, reviewed books, designed websites, managed social media, and interned at a little branding agency. My life revolves around words and design, so don’t worry—you’re in a good place.

The fun facts:

- career in alternate universe: barista

creative exploits (in more detail)

mBrand intern

- spent half a year at a little creative agency, assisting in various projects

- my focus was on writing and branding strategy

- favorite projects include: rebranding agency website, editing ballet academy brochures, creating brand decks for a chocolate company.

Havok Publishing intern

- managed submissions, reading hundreds of flash fiction stories (and realized how frequently people ignore guidelines)

- proofread our anthologies before publication (they’re already so well edited it’s like finding needles in a haystack)

- had 6 of my stories published, most notably this Rumpelstiltskin retelling

Fiction editing

- edited over a dozen novels & novellas for writer friends, plus chapters, excerpts, and stories

- loved all stages of editing, from content to line, copy to proofreading

- some that got published: How We Rise, United We Fall, Andora’s Folly, Live Without You, Seek

- see reviews below!

TCKs for Christ designer & editor

- as a founding member of this little non-profit publishing project, I’ve been a jack of all trades

- most proud of: designing our visual identity & website, and setting up an efficient workflow system (which everyone follows except for me… oops)

- my main jobs right now: graphic design, social media management, and content editing

Oh Beloved One writer

- wrote articles for the bi-monthly digital issues, contributed to the blog, and illustrated other writers’ pieces

- proofread the magazine before publication (seriously, my favorite part because I got to see the full design and layout first)

- wrote social copy & assisted with other side projects

Book reviewing

- kept a book blog and wrote bi-weekly posts about all things reading and writing

- participated in blog tours and book promotions (especially for indie authors)

- read and reviewed 50-100 published books and ARCs a year, on blog and Goodreads

  • “Lisa was a great resource to have when I needed beta readers for my book! She asked questions prompting me to make sure I knew where I was taking things, helped me expand descriptions for clarity, and pointed out some tricky grammatical traps I'd fallen into. Lisa has a very sweet spirit and was highly encouraging as she helped lead me to my own conclusions about what could be strengthened in my story. I highly recommend her inquisitive mind and sharp eyes!”

  • “I asked Lisa to edit my novella on incredibly short notice, and she did an amazing job! Not only was she able to meet the deadline, but her notes on the story were SO helpful and thoughtful. Her comments made the editing process so much less stressful for me, and it actually became quite fun! I don't know where my story would be without Lisa's help. I'd definitely recommend hiring her if you need a fresh pair of editing-eyes to go through your book.”

  • “When I first asked Lisa to beta read the first few chapters in my book it was because I trusted her as a fellow blogger and friend. I had never gone through the beta reader process before, so I didn’t really know what to expect. That being said, I was blown away by Lisa’s talent and skill in finding small details as well as gaping plot holes that needed my attention, all while pointing it out in a funny way, keeping the mood light. Even during critical comments, she always made sure to be kind, never insulting my writing. Those first few chapters are smoother now thanks to the notes she gave me.”

Brooke Riley | How We Rise

  • “My manuscript was jumbled and messy, and Lisa's comments will help me improve the book significantly in the next draft. When I asked follow-up questions after she completed the draft, she took the time to write a detailed email discussing not only what needed improvement, but what she loved about the characters. Lisa approached my weaknesses kindly, and constantly encouraged me by pointing out the descriptions or dialogue she liked. She also provided constructive suggestions instead of simply telling me what I did wrong. Lisa is a fantastic editor and I highly recommend her!”

  • “Lisa's critique of my novel was satisfactory in every way. In-depth but not nit-picky, knowledgeable but not demeaning, affirming but not lax. Reading through her notes inspired me to actually look forward to revising my novel and to do whatever it takes to make my story the best it can be. She pointed out many areas for improvement in such a way that I could feel HER excitement for what might further be explored with my world and characters, demonstrating a care for my story that was super encouraging!”
